Alberta Cup

This weekend was the first couple of races of the season that included people outside of Alberta and BC! It was the Alberta Cup and was held right here in Canmore. There was a 1km (1.1km for men) skate sprint  yesterday and a 6km (9km for men) classic today. I only did the sprint though because I don't want to do too many races in the beginning of the season - I have to save myself for the more important ones!

The sprint course was quite short and fast. Pretty much all of the climbing was done in the first 1/2 of the course which made for a strategic race plan. Unfortunately, I didn't chose the best plan in the final heat and I ended up leading up and over the hill allowing the other girls to draft off me on the downhill. The girl who was drafting right behind me was able to pass me on the 2nd half of the downhill and although I was able to catch back up to her a bit coming into the finish stretch, she was still able to win by a boots length. But hey, 2nd is still pretty good still to come!

Podium (L-R): Me, Maya MacIsaac-Jones, Rebecca Reid (AWCA teammate).  It was a tight race for top 3!

On Wednesday we head off to Sovereign Lakes for the first NORAM races of the season!
