Our Train Got Derailed
The other day some of the team went skiing at Cascade in Banff for a change of scenery. The trail there has a lot of gradual hills and our coach suggested we practice doing a 'train' on the downhills for when it would be an advantage in a race. A train is when you tuck really close to the person in front of you to draft off them. But because you are in their draft you usually start going a bit faster so then you have to push their pole tips a bit so the two of you (or 10 of you) can maintain the same speed. This is an advantage on longer races when you ski as a group to help each other out for the first while.
Sounds pretty simple, right?
Well, here's what we got;
The train started as Rebecca, Annika, Me and Marlis. Annika's ski popped out of the track at one point and when she started to go down Marlis and I dragged her along a few meters because our skis were stuck between her legs. Eventually we all got whipped around and face planted. We are facing up the hill in this picture, we really got spun around!
And who said skiing isn't risky!
